Coaching Session with Katelyn James Photography

I recently challenged myself. I set a goal, and if I was able to achieve that goal, then I would take the opportunity to learn from one of the best of the best in the business, Katelyn James. When I started my business, a friend and a KJ Bride, introduced me to Katelyn’s work. (after you visit these links promise you'll come back to me one day - please!) I know, I know, I was awe struck, too! Not only did her beautiful images draw me in, but so did her blog and the fact that after reading as many of her posts that first day as I could, I suddenly felt as if I actually knew her.

It wasn't long before I learned about the Katelyn James Coaching and Workshop Experiences. I set a goal for myself, once I learned of those opportunities, that I would one day participate. I never imagined my business would grow like it has, nor did I ever imagine that I would actually be making my dreams come true. I thought that this might not ever be more than a hobby for me. Boy did that ever change!

When I reached the goal, and the opportunity presented itself, I jumped on purchasing a Katelyn James Coaching Session. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself and for my business. If you’re a photographer I encourage you to consider a coaching session for yourself.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. Before I met with Katelyn I psyched myself out trying to prepare. I spent days writing down questions, I created an outline of what I wanted to discuss, I packed up all the things I thought I need, picked out “the outfit” for the day, and I showed up a little frazzled. First of all it was cold! So “the outfit” was nixed, and I was forced to choose something else. When I arrived that morning, I was so nervous that I was quite possibly ringing the wrong doorbell and I really wasn’t sure what to expect. All of that to say – when you go for your coaching session – don’t do this! She is as organized as she presents herself to be online in her blog. She is prepared and if you’re serious about your business, then you know what you need to talk about. The questions were helpful because I could refer to those to make sure I didn’t forget anything. I’m still a relatively new, third time around mommy, so  I haven’t completely recovered from baby brain. So the questions helped.
  2. I wasn’t sure what I would walk away from the coaching session with. I didn’t know if this would end up being an emotional rescue/counseling session or if I would have concrete things to go back and do. While parts of me could have benefited from an emotional rescue, I left with several pages of doable, reasonable, and thought out action items. Over everything else, this made my experience more than worth it!
  3. I need to share more of me with you! You all obviously choose to work with me for a reason, and I need to be willing to share more of myself with you. This has been hard for me, because in my stubborn head I really thought that hearing things about me didn’t really interest you. Katelyn assures me I am wrong, and I believe she is right!
  4. I used to think that in order to take beautiful photos I had to seek out an exotic location. This is so wrong! When Katelyn did my headshots that day I learned what I had heard many times before – there is beauty all around us. The tips that she shared, and watching her work in the locations we ventured to taught me just how true  that statement is.
  5. Finally – I am good at what I do – that’s why I am still doing it and that’s why I am working with you all! I want to give you wonderful experiences when you work with me. I have a plan to ensure that you do. I also have a bit more confidence in myself and my work, and that is priceless.

My experience was amazing. Here are my headshots from the day. Thanks Katelyn James Photography for these wonderful photos :)
