Weekend Recap: It's the little things...

This is the first time sharing this, and I'm planning to make it a regular theme on the blog. I hope you're interested in how I spent my weekend - I'm definitely interested in hearing about yours - so let's share!

As you know Friday was Family Friday. We ate ham sandwich's and chips for dinner. I've decided it doesn't always have to be fancy. We spent the evening playing Apples to Apples Junior for the first time ever. It was fun! And officially Colson's and Cayson's new favorite game to play as a family. On the agenda for the upcoming weekend - Fibber!

On Saturday morning - the boys went to baseball tryouts. I can't even believe they're out of Pee Wee league and getting ready to play Minor League baseball. It's about to get real! I didn't go - and one day I'll talk a little more about why I'm taking a back seat. Instead I stayed home, I cooked pancakes for Layton, I cleaned the house while loudly playing contemporary Christian music (Multiplied by NeedToBreathe has the ability to lift me out of dark places), then I set up the studio for a newborn session and a 6 month session. I had big ideas for what we were going to do later that night - maybe go out on the town as a family - but instead I was so tired we settled on hot dogs, french fries and another round of Apples to Apples.

Time changed (I know you knew that <3). Somehow that lost hour really doesn't seem so lost - YET! We started the day off with three kids snuggling in the bed, watching DVR'd episodes of Street Outlaws (I'm outnumbered by boys!), and then just hanging out. I did a little work (just some editing and wedding album design), then headed to Richmond for a lifestyle photo session. That was indeed like a breath of fresh air.

Those are the highlights - these are the two moments that I would like to freeze in time. Normally my kids would rather be glued to a video game for HOURS. AND HOURS. AND HOURS. and endless HOURS! I hate the video games. But I caught them with the video games shoved to the side somewhere and playing with toys instead. Oh - this right here! This will be over before I know it. And if I could freeze time for just a little bit I would just so I could hang onto this a little bit longer...

And then on Sunday...I decided to play the Christian contemporary music again. Since Mark stays home, and I work, the amount of time the boys spend with me in the car is a lot less. And the car is where I listen to music - particularly this music - the most. My radio is stuck on 90.5 Positive Hits PER. I had wondered how much of an influence I was going to be able to have on them if they weren't listening to these positive messages more. So this morning God shared with me that they are indeed listening. I was washing dishes and Colson wanted to show me something on his tablet. As he stood beside me through several songs getting to the place in the game he wanted to show me, he sang the words to everyone of those songs with me. I stopped and just watched him for a second. As the tears filled my eyes I just sang with him and smiled. Even the littlest things matter.

Sunday was beautiful. Layton loves to go outside, and I wish you could hear him say "outside." My grandma came to visit, and took him out to walk around. He noticed his shadow for the first time, and was quite perplexed. It was sweet, and I'm glad I was standing there to watch it happen.

How was your weekend?
